Locations on the Costa Blanca
Location is an important factor to bear in mind when buying a property abroad.
Spain is still one of the top locations as it can be reached by plane in two and a half hours flying time
from most European destinations.
Many buyers are attracted to the Costa Blanca by long hot summers, mild winters and a spectacular
Mediterranean coastline with good beaches, picturesque mountains with a natural beauty and a laid back
lifestyle.
We live in Teulada in the northern part of the Costa Blanca in the area known as the Marina Alta and
stretches from the town of Calpe through to Denia, it is the most scenic and unspoilt part of the Costa
Blanca with some fantastic mountain ranges and also the quieter more traditional inland villages of the
Jalon and Orba Valleys, which are surrounded by farmland, vineyards, olive and citrus groves
Why did we choose this part of Spain?
This area of Spain boasts a minimum of 325 days of sunshine each year, with temperatures ranging from 16c
in the winter to 32c in the summer (unlike the Costa del Sol, which is very arid and can be oppressively
hot in the summer) and has been voted as one of the healthiest places to live by the World
Health Organisation.
If you don’t want to lie on the beach all day (though the beaches in this region are some of the most
beautiful in Spain), then you have plenty of other activities such as golf, tennis, bowling, sailing,
scuba diving and social clubs to keep you busy.
For the more adventurous then the Guadalest Valley has some of Spain's best adventure climbing, walking,
hiking and canyoning which in near perfect weather you can do all year round.
If you enjoy eating out the variety of food available at bars or restaurants is endless, most restaurants
are Spanish run but you will also find Chinese, Italian, Indian restaurants and many serving British food.
In this part of Spain many meals are based around seafood dishes though many Spanish restaurants will
serve tapas, local recipes and dishes that are unique to this region such as Paella
This is why we chose this part of the Costa Blanca to live, it has everything for eveyone and unlike other
parts of Spain it does not feel like a ghost town in Winter, a lot of people have made their homes here
and there are always visitors whatever time of year.
